AFNA is deeply grateful to the Assam Association of Michigan (AAMI) ,  Assam Association of Greater Chicago (AAGC) and Assam Association Vancouver (AAVAN) — and every one of their members — for their generous joint fundraising effort for Assam Flood Relief. Your support is helping deliver food, water, medicine, and essential supplies to families rebuilding their lives.

To our individual donors:  Your contribution matters just as much as any organized effort. Relief work is built one gift at a time, and every single donation — big or small — is going directly toward getting essential supplies to families who need them most. We see you, and we're grateful for you.

To other Assamese associations across North America: we invite you to join this effort and help us reach even more families in need. Please contact us to organize a relief drive with your community.

A Heartfelt Thank You

 What's Happening in Assam

Since late April, monsoon flooding has been affecting hundreds of thousands of people across 25 districts of Assam. On July 19th, a cloudburst upstream sent a sudden wall of water through Upper Assam. Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat are experiencing their worst flooding in decades, with the Dikhow River breaching its extreme flood level. More than 700,000 people have been affected in this latest wave alone, and at least 60 lives have been claimed.

Thousands of families are in relief camps. Hundreds of homes have been destroyed or damaged. Crops, livestock, roads, and rail lines have been submerged under water. We cannot overstate the immediate need for dry food, safe drinking water, tarpaulins, medicine, and hygiene supplies.

Assam Needs Us Now: AFNA is joining the relief efforts immediately
These severe floods have devastated Upper Assam once again, leaving thousands of families without food, shelter, or basic necessities. AFNA is urgently raising $30,000 to provide groceries, emergency supplies, and critical relief through trusted local partners in Sibsagar, Sonari, Nazira, Simoluguri, Amguri, and other flood-affected communities.

How AFNA is Responding

The Assam Foundation of North America has partnered with organizations across the state working on the ground in multiple districts of Assam. Our partner organizations have decades of experience delivering relief in Assam and hold FCRA registration/relevant credentials, which allows them to lawfully receive foreign contributions.

Together, we are funding:

  • Food (Rice, Dal, Oil, Cooking Masalas, Potatoes, Salt, Biscuits)

  • Basic Essentials (Mosquito Coil, Disinfectant, Cases of Drinking Water)

  • Transportation (Movement of goods across the state)

  • and other necessary relief support

Every dollar donated through this campaign goes to flood relief. AFNA is an all-volunteer organization and 100% of the funds from donors goes directly to the beneficiaries.

AFNA will publish updates on this page as funds are dispersed—photos from the field, quantities of supplies delivered, and a final accounting when the campaign closes. That is our commitment to you.

Phase 1 Update (August 4, 2026)

Thanks to our donors  AFNA is close to completing Phase 1 of immediate flood relief in Upper Assam

✅ ~₹20 lakh committed through trusted local partners
✅ Relief kits — groceries, kitchen sets, mosquito nets, bedsheets, hygiene items — procured, packed & dispatched
✅ Reaching families in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Nazira & Golaghat

✅ 100% of donations went directly to relief — AFNA is fully volunteer-run
📦 Distribution is still ongoing — kits are arriving in affected villages now, with more updates and photos from the field to follow

But the work is not done. Families have lost homes and everything in them. AFNA is now launching Phase 2: Rehabilitation — partnering with the Indian Red Cross Society (Assam) to provide family rehabilitation kits (~₹10,000/family: kitchen sets, clothing, bedding, hygiene essentials).

We've raised our goal to $100,000 — every ~$120 helps one more family rebuild. 💪

July 23, 2026: Campaign Launched across social media and email platforms. Partner organizations identified Target Goal $15,000.

July 25, 2026: Target funds has been raised to $30k as AFNA is planning to gain ground into the remote village areas of upper Assam that has been heavily impacted. Thanks to our donors we have reached close to our initial target of $15k

July 27, 2026: We were able to raise $10,589 from 72 donors and total of $29,800 from 173 donors. We also raised the target fund to $50k as AFNA is also focusing on a rehabilitation program for dislocated and severely affects families and individuals due to the current floods. More information on the rehabilitation program (Phase 3)  and the current Phase 1 /Phase 2 approach to mitigate existing flood situation shall be shared shortly.

July 28, 2026: Another $6,371 has been raised as of today. Procurement of goods from one of our partners are in progress and would be ready for dispatch within the week to various affected districts

FAQ

Q1

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. The Assam Foundation of North America is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization (EIN 61-0994468). Your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. You will receive a receipt by email for your tax records. We also accept donations through Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) and employer matching programs — check whether your employer matches charitable gifts, as this can double your impact.

Q3

How much of my donation goes to relief?

100% of your donation goes directly to flood relief. AFNA is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff, and no portion of campaign funds is spent on overhead or administration. Funds are used to procure relief supplies from approved wholesalers and vendors, which AFNA pays directly.

Q2

How does my money actually reach Assam?

AFNA transfers pooled campaign funds to partner organziations, which are authorized to receive foreign contributions under India's FCRA regulations. Partners work in the field directly with respect to purchases and distribute relief supplies directly in affected districts.

Q4

Can I help in other ways?

Yes. Share this page with your network, especially on WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. If your employer offers donation matching, you can also use that  to submit a request to your employer to match your donation to AFNA. For more questions, please email: info@assamfoundation.net.

Q5

3. How does the money reach flood victims in Assam?

AFNA works exclusively through trusted local partners whom we have maintained relations for multiple years.. Rather than transferring lump sums, AFNA pays approved wholesalers and vendors directly for relief materials, while our partners coordinate procurement, transportation, and distribution on the ground. This gives us direct control and full visibility over how every dollar is used.

Q7

What's the difference between Phase 1 and Phase 2?

Phase 1 (immediate relief) delivers emergency kits — food staples, drinking water, mosquito nets, and hygiene supplies — to help families survive the coming weeks. Phase 2 (rehabilitation) begins once floodwaters recede and helps families rebuild: each rehabilitation kit (~₹10,000/family, roughly $120) provides the durable essentials of a household — kitchen set, clothing, bedding, buckets, and hygiene items — designed to support a family for up to a year.

Q6

Which areas is AFNA's relief reaching?

Our current relief operations serve flood-affected families in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Nazira, and parts of Golaghat districts in Upper Assam, with rehabilitation efforts planned to extend to Jorhat. Our partners are working to reach remote village areas that larger relief operations often miss.

Q8

How do I know the relief is actually being delivered?

We publish regular field updates on this page, including dated progress reports, photos, and videos of procurement, dispatch, loading, and distribution as they happen. Our partners document each stage, and AFNA volunteers visiting Assam conduct field visits with partner organizations.
