SHED, which stands for Special Help for Education and Development, is a well-established organization that has been operational for over a decade. It is dedicated to providing essential services and support to children with disabilities, focusing particularly on rehabilitation training and offering an integrated school environment. The organization’s mission is to empower differently abled children by equipping them with the necessary skills and education that will allow them to thrive in society. The comprehensive approach taken by SHED not only addresses the educational needs of these children but also emphasizes their overall development, ensuring that they receive the holistic support they require to lead fulfilling lives.
Located in Sonapur, near the Digaru Air Force Base, SHED is conveniently situated approximately a one-hour drive from the bustling city of Guwahati in Assam, India. This strategic location allows the organization to serve a broad community, reaching out to families from various nearby areas who are in need of specialized educational services for their children. The serene environment surrounding the facility provides a conducive atmosphere for learning and rehabilitation, essential for the growth and development of the students.Currently, SHED caters to a total of over 60 students, primarily from the surrounding regions, who are mostly living with various disabilities. These children come from diverse backgrounds, and many of them face financial hardships that render them unable to afford tuition fees for traditional educational institutions. Recognizing these challenges, SHED strives to provide its services free of charge or at minimal cost, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to receive quality education and support, regardless of their financial situation. This commitment to inclusivity is a cornerstone of the organization’s philosophy, as it believes that every child deserves access to education and the chance to reach their full potential.
In addition to the dedicated staff, most of whom are specially trained educators with expertise in working with children with disabilities, SHED also fosters a supportive community environment. The teachers are not only skilled in delivering tailored educational programs but are also compassionate individuals who understand the unique challenges faced by their students. They employ innovative teaching methods and individualized learning plans to cater to the specific needs of each child, ensuring that they receive the attention and assistance necessary for their academic and personal growth. This focus on specialized education is crucial in helping students build confidence, develop social skills, and achieve academic success, paving the way for a brighter future.
