Cyclone Relief In Assam

Hundreds of people died or are missing near Dhubri when a cyclone hit a crowded passenger ferry on the Brahmaputra on April 30th, 2012 (news article). To help in this hour of need, Assam Foundation of North America has assembled a fund to send as relief for children of victims.

In addition to an immediate allocation from its general fund, Assam Foundation of North America conducted an urgent drive for donations till May 21st, 2012. Thanks to great support from donors at very short notice, the drive has substantially increased the size of the fund. We are currently in the process of working with concerned authorities and local NGO's in the Dhubri area to get the funds to victims. Our plan is to sustain the education of children of victims under our Support A Child initiative to continue their education.

Final Fund Status (May 21, 2012)
Amount from General Fund $1,000
Additional donations received
Amount from donors $620
Number of donors 9
Total amount in fund currently $1,620

We would also like to make an appeal for donations to help replenish our general fund, which we keep aside to respond to events like this in Assam or here in North America. If you have any questions about this project, please contact us. Thank you.
