Manual weaving unit at Prajnalaya

Debojit Bora of AFNA visited Prajnalaya on the New Year’s day of year 2007. The following is a brief writing on his visit.

Prajnalaya at Saraipani, is located 20 miles from Jorhat town. Road is mostly good except towards the last km. It was a day for celebration for the first day of the school year. Also it was meeting time for the parents and the students. I visited the site with son Raj (who is a University of Mich. student) and Dr Dina Bordoloi of Jorhat. It was also a public meeting day, I met the local DSP Debashish Bora and the Circle officer of Titabor at the function. I toured the facility, the class rooms, dormitory, had food together at the kitchen, I emphasized to the team to train the students on the local cottage industry., I also saw their weaving (manual) set-up. All the "gamocha" used at the function for facilitation was weaved on site by students. In Prajnalaya's brochure I noticed their goal of teaching many cottage industry programs such as carpentry, horticulture, bamboo craft, fishery etc. I presented them with

gifts such as jig-saw puzzles of 1000/500/100 pieces, Brain quest quiz booklets, US calendars, posters etc. I also met the following persons of Prajnalaya, Samiron Bordoloi, acting President and eminent social worker of Jorhat; Jugal Bhuyan, Secretary; Dr. Suresh Rajkhowa Lecture of Titabor college and Project Co-ordinator.

The following is Debojit Bora’s site visit report on Parijat Academy. I Visited Parijat Academy located at Pomohi, Guwahati on 10th Jan., 2007. Uttam teron and his parents greeted me. I reviewed the classrooms, talked with students and staff and presented Uttam with AFNA 's check and jig-saw puzzles and quiz booklets. They presented me with a beautiful "japi" and "gamucha". I noticed book gifts from TX resident Saragapani's . Uttam mentioned he also got support from Dr. Sangita saikia, TX and is in touch with Aorahon management for cooperative work. He also mentioned the school building would be expanded with AFNA's fund.
